A BOOK by ME Meets Girl Scout World Thinking Day

BOOK by ME was on the scene at the Girl Scout World Thinking Day in Davenport, Iowa on March 10, 2012. Girl Scouts invited us to set up a booth to teach something about the country of Poland. Since many of our book subjects are from Poland, it was our privilege to share the story of Irena Sendler, a Polish woman who made a difference during WWII! Thousands of Girl Scouts from across Iowa and Illinois were present for a day of learning and fun!

We talked to hundreds of girl scouts and their troop leaders about the possibility of using young authors to capture important stories from their community. Over a dozen young ladies signed up to become young authors on the spot! Way to go Nikki, Madison, Jaden, Faith, Lacie, Ashlee, Jessica, Kassidy, Kellyanne, Aislinn, Abby, Josic, and Kaitlyn! You are going to help educate children on a very important subject!

There was a sign up for free books - the following ten lucky girl scouts won copies of Jolanta and Her 2,500 Kids which is the story of Righteous Gentile (a Polish Catholic woman who risked her life to save Jewish children) Irena Sendler. This book was written and illustrated by Barbara Schlozen. Our congratulations to: Madison, Anna, Rosemary, Molly, Mary Frances, Samantha, Raeann, Jessica, Abby, and Attilysse!
