Dr. Marrietta Castle and Deb Bowen were honored with the Richard Swanson Hope for Humanity Award at this year’s Yom Hashoah. The award is named in honor of Rev. Richard Swanson in 2006. This award goes to someone who has actively promoted an effective dialogue between Jews and Non-Jews; made efforts to resolve issues relating to peace, justice, and interfaith affairs; carried out these efforts within the broader Quad Cities region; and been a present or former resident of the Quad Cities region. Only six people have been honored previously in the 34 year history of Yom Hashoah. Dr. Marrietta Castle and Deb Bowen are members of the Yom Hashoah committee since 1995 and 2014, respectively.
Mission Statement: The Yom Hashoah Committee seeks to honor the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and those who helped the victims, and to tell the story of the Holocaust in such a way as to encourage resistance to any future holocaust.
